Eagles earn WNIT bid

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team has earned a spot to play in the Postseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament.

The game will be played at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., Wednesday at 7 p.m.

EMU makes the Postseason WNIT this year after going 8-21 last season.

The Eagles (22-8) travel to West Lafayette after a 72-46 loss to Akron in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

The Boilermakers (14-16) last contest resulted in a 73-51 loss to Wisconsin in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.

EMU’s previous Postseason WNIT invite came during the 2005-06 season. The 05-06 squad lost in the opening round, 79-57, to Indiana State at Terre Haute, Ind.

The last time the two teams met was in 2000 when Eastern played Purdue in the Preseason WNIT. The Eagles lost that contest in West Lafayette, 84-60.
