The Eastern Echo

News and nonsense spiced with nerve

Men's track and field sports All-Americans

Brent, Figgins, Ford and Vollmar medley relay team is named All-American

The Eastern Michigan men’s track and field distance medley relay team took its school record setting team to the NCAA National Championships over the weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., and came away with a fifth-place finish and All-American honors.

“As they now join the elite membership of EMU Track and Field Record Holders and All-Americans,” EMU coach John Goodridge said in a release.

The relay team of David Brent, Ackeem Forde, Blake Figgins and Curtis Vollmar ran a time of 9:38.44.

“This foursome has been on fire the past month, gaining increased confidence weekly and culminating the past three weekends with this realization and accomplishment of winning a combined four MAC Championships in the mile, 3,000-meter, 5,000-meter and DMR,” Goodridge said.

“I’m very proud of these guys for breaking a 15-year-old EMU record, being one of the elite national DMRs in the nation and coming home All-Americans.”

The record in mention was broken by the All-Americans March 5 at the Alex Wilson invitational in South Bend, Ind. The mark of 9:32.72 bested the previous record (9:35.21) posted by the 1995 team, and is the sixth fastest time in the nation this year.

you had no time to interview these men or provide a photo but we write up long elaborate stories about mediocre performances of other teams? These men are ALL AMERICANS!!!? Why was there also nothing in the Echo about the team winning the 2010 indoor MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS? The mens indoor track team was the 1ST team of the 2009-2010 academic year to win a MAC crown (and Mens swimming & diving)… The track & field/xc teams here have the most storied history of any athletic teams here and no one knows about it… poorly done Echo
